Massive: The particle that sparked the greatest hunt in science
Sunday, November 4, 2012 from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM (GMT)
Manchester, United Kingdom
Why does anything have mass? In 1964, British physicist Peter Higgs and five others proposed a theory describing an invisible field pervading the cosmos that gives mass to the building blocks of nature. The scientific community embarked on the greatest hunt in modern science for the particle that would prove this theory, the Higgs boson. Ian Sample, author and science correspondent for The Guardian, takes us through the fascinating story behind this momentous pursuit.
